WELCOME TO Key Stage 2
At Woodthorpe every child is recognised as a unique individual and we celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. Our aim is to enhance and invite children's curiosity, confidence and individual competency to flourish regardless of backgrounds, circumstances or needs. We aim to work collaboratively with parents and carers to encourage independent enthusiastic learners who thrive and reach their full potential.

Children in KS2 have the opportunity to play a musical instrument. We offer brass lessons, guitar lessons and keyboard lessons. The children are also invited to take part in concerts in and out of school at various times during the year and to take Associated Board grade exams.
In Year 3, children will have the opportunity to visit Forest School for a series of sessions. Forest School combines games and acquisition of skills to enable a child to build their self esteem and to make choices to be risk aware as opposed to our risk adverse society we are living in at present. We teach the children how to dress for the weather, respect nature and the environment, use tools safely, fire safety and cooking on an open fire as well as shelter building and tying knots and hitches.
Multiplication Tables Check- Y4
In Year 4, children will take a Multiplication tables check in the summer term which tests the children on their times tables. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help us to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. It is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times table questions and they will have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. More information can be found on the Y4 Class Blog Site.
At Woodthorpe, we take our Year 3 and Year 4 children to Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre for their swimming lessons. We then offer swimming to Year 6 in the summer term to ensure that all our pupils leave primary school being able to swim 25m confidently, know how to get out of trouble if they fall into water, know the dangers of water and understand how to stay safe when playing in and around it. More information can be found on the Y3 and Y4 Class Blog Sites.
At the end of the children's primary phase, children will complete their Standard Assessment Tests. Parents will be offered a workshop in the Spring Term to learn about the assessments their children will take, have the opportunity to purchase any revision materials and ask a range of questions. During SAT's week, we offer a breakfast club to the children so they feel calm and ready. More information can be found on the Y6 Class Blog Site.
